THE STORY OF THE CAPE TOWN PROJECT

In South Africa, ubuntu refers to the spirit of community, the belief that humanity is tied together. In this new collective creation, ghosts haunt a man and a woman, continents apart, as they are drawn together to discover the secrets of their past. This international collaboration of Canadian and South African artists traces the ties that bind us all, with spirited storytelling, music and dance.

THE HISTORY OF THE CAPE TOWN PROJECT

In April 2005, five members of Theatrefront's ensemble traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to begin developing an international collective theatre creation in collaboration with The Baxter Theatre Centre The Canadian and South African actors spent a month in Cape Town developing a new play together. On May 1, 2005 we presented a workshop presentation of THE CAPE TOWN PROJECT at The Baxter Theatre Centre for a public audience.

In 2006 in Association with The Tarragon Theatre, Theatrefront brought our South African collaborators to Toronto twice to continue developing this production with us. In 2008 in association with the Tarragon Theatre and the Neptune Theatre (Halifax) we completed our final development workshop in Toronto, which culminated in public performances at the Tarragon TheatreĆs rehearsal studio.
